ABOUT MIDI SOUND FILES
MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and it is music that's been composed with a maximum of 128 digital instruments. Though not as good a quality sound as the WAV or Mp3, the actual file size is very small compared to a similar length WAV or MP3 files. In fact, we ourselves have over 7000 Midi (mostly karaoke) songs, all of which easily fit on one CD.

MIDI was originally designed to allow a composer to send digital information to a computer's sound card to record and play music. Many keyboards, organs and synthesizers these days (and for a while now) have what's called a "MIDI interface" on them. which plugs the instrument directly into the sound card of a P.C. allowing musicians to easily record their music digitally.

PLAYING MIDI FILES
Most sound cards will automatically set up MIDI drivers upon installation, so assuming you have a sound card installed you should be able to at least play them now. If you have a keyboard with a MIDI interface, the leads are available at most music shops for you to create your very own. The resulting MIDI files are very small indeed and can be downloaded from the Internet within seconds and, there are literally millions of files available to download.

USES FOR MIDI FILES
Professional singers often use MIDI as the background, or beat music whilst playing their own instrument "Live" and performing at gigs, and/or, If you know the words, you can sing-a-long with them at home. You can also embed words into a MIDI file using free software programs like Karaoke Creator to create your very own karaoke music which can be played on most PC's.

Thousands of people (maybe even you) have already mixed a MIDI song (usually a well known song) and have made them available for download from the Internet. I've gathered a few famous Aussie tunes for you here.
