One of the best features about MIDI Karaoke is that you can actually make your own karaoke songs with little or no knowledge of music.

THE RECIPE

The two ingredients you'll need for making a P.C. karaoke song is:
(1) MID file (the music) and
(2) Song Lyrics (the words).

HOW TO GET THE MUSIC

1. YOU CAN RECORD YOUR OWN MUSIC
This option would be the best by far while most of us won't be able to fulfill it. The best way of creating a song from scratch would be to totally play it yourself using a synthesizer or MIDI organ. Most home PC's have sound cards, and most of them have what's known as a MIDI port on it (same port your joystick plugs in to) - If you can play an organ or synthesizer well, you could play around with the chords and really jazz things up or even record your OWN songs!

2. DOWNLOAD MIDI FROM THE INTERNET

Another way to get the music and by far one of the easiest ways to get MIDI music is to download it from the Internet. There are thousands of sites on the net, with hundreds of thousands of songs available and ready to download. Many people who sequence their own music offer them free to people who visit their sites. You can type the name of the song you're after into your favourite search engine or use VanBasco's excellent Midi search engine below. It will do a search of the net for you. Alternatively, using your favourite search engine, type in something like "free midi", you'll be suprised how many "free" songs you will find.

WHERE TO GET LYRICS

1. DOWNLOAD THEM FROM THE NET
Nowadays there are sites springing up all over the place specialising in "Song Lyrics".
Click here to see our lyric links page or, once again, typing "song lyric" into your favorite search engine will definately give you a wide range of links to song lyric sites. Search Alta Vista Now.

2. MANUALLY TYPE THE WORDS
Probably the most time consuming method is to play the song and write down the words but you can guarantee it will be the words you will want. I found my kids loved doing this part and I'll bet if you asked nicely, someone close would love to do it for you too.

THEN COMBINE THEM BOTH

Once you have both the music and words, you use a program to stitch the two together

1. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THIS *FREE PROGRAM
